Student Conduct Philosophy
Every SUNY Broome student is a member of the College’s living and learning community, and as such, has certain rights and responsibilities.
Students are responsible for their behavior while a member of the SUNY Broome community and, recognizing that their actions impact those around them, must prioritize fostering SUNY Broome’s inclusive and civil environment. In addition to following the SUNY Broome Code of Conduct, students must also agree to follow local, state, and federal laws.
The student conduct process is designed to uphold college policies and Student Village regulations while promoting the College’s educational mission. We are committed to facilitating individual student success and accountability through a fair and engaging process centered around developmental exercises and conversations. These exercises may lead to behavioral consequences, and when necessary, separation from the college.
The student conduct process is administered collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Athletics, the Office of Housing, Counseling Services, the SUNY Broome Department of Public Safety, and local police and emergency response agencies.
Students who have guests and/or visitors not affiliated with SUNY Broome must inform them of the rules and regulations. Students may be held accountable for their guest’s actions. Students are also responsible for the actions of others whom they intentionally provoke or urge to violate policy.
