The Hive Post
The Hive Post is an email series for new students for SUNY Broome students to help them get ready for the first day of classes. Each month a new edition comes out that highlights important next steps and critical information.

Congratulations on your acceptance to SUNY Broome and welcome to the hive!

Whether you are entering college for the first time or returning to college after many years, we are so excited that you are taking the steps to achieve your academic and career goals.

Over the next few months, you will be receiving a series of emails from the Orientation and Onboarding Office to help you get ready to start classes on January 26, 2026. This series, which we call The Hive Post, will be coming to you every few weeks email.

Each The Hive Post edition will highlight critical next steps and important events coming up. All this information can also be found on our New Students Webpage should you need to reference it in the future.

Did you know registration for the spring 2026 semester is open? This The Hive Post edition highlights what you need to do to get ready to meet with your academic advisor and pick your classes for the spring.

What is an academic advisor? An Academic Advisor is a dedicated professional who supports your overall success at SUNY Broome. They help you navigate your academic journey, connect you with campus resources, and make informed decisions about your goals and opportunities. While course planning and registration are part of their role, Academic Advisors also assist you in understanding your degree pathway, exploring options that align with your interests, and developing the skills needed to take ownership of your college experience. Your Academic Advisor is a valuable partner in your growth, academically, personally, and professionally—so don’t hesitate to reach out and ask questions!

Who is my academic advisor? You are assigned an Academic Advisor who will be there to help during your time at SUNY Broome. To find out who your academic advisor is, search your program on our Academic Advising website under “Step 2: Who is my academic advisor?”

If you are wondering what exactly advising and registration means, you are not alone. You may hear different words that are completely new to folks who have not attended college or taken classes through SUNY Broome before. To help you become familiar with the different terms you may be hearing a lot, we have created a deck of flashcards.

Here are important things to do to get ready to register for classes:

Check out the Advising Website and look up who your advisor is.
Schedule your advising appointment by calling 607-778-5421, emailing advising@sunybroome.edu or scheduling via MyCollege.
Prepare for your advising appointment by checking out these helpful resources.
Before your advising appointment, be sure to Set up your MyCollege account  and Set up your SUNY Broome Email.
That’s all for Edition 2!
