Student Activities is seeking a responsible and motivated Student Assistants to oversee and maintain a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment in the Science Building Student Lounges (The Parlor and The Hive). The Student Assistants will monitor lounge activities, enforce college policies, check equipment in/out, and provide assistance to students utilizing the space.Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the lounge area, ensuring a safe, clean, and respectful environment.
  • Maintain game equipment and check items in and out accordingly.
  • Enforce campus policies and guidelines, addressing inappropriate behavior as needed.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, providing information about campus resources.
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate college staff.
  • Assist with setting up and organizing lounge furniture or equipment as needed.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all students.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The role of the Housing Office Assistant (HOA) is to provide support to the Housing Staff, and assist new students, guests, and the overall department. The primary functions include office and phone coverage, providing tours, assisting in other administrative procedures (key organization, form collections/filing, etc.). The Housing Office Assistant is a member of the Housing and Residential Department and as such, expected to adhere to the professional standards, mission, vision, and values of SUNY Broome Community College and Housing and Residential Life.

DEPARTMENTAL ASSISTANCE: In order to establish a safe and productive community, the HOA provides departmental support in the following areas:• Is available to residents or guests;
• Supports admissions, guests, and visitors with tours;
• Assists in building preparation and ongoing upkeep.
• Will cover the front desk, or Housing Office and answer questions and phones.
• Must be approachable and display an appropriate level of skill and communication

SUPPORT HOURS: The HOA has flexibility in scheduling their hours; however, there may be specific timeframes requested in
support of coverage, or tasks.
• Primary office hours will need to fall in between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday
• Flexibility can include weekdays, nights and weekends.
• Groups may include guests, tours, or others.

RESOURCE AND REFERRAL: The HOA is responsible for referring guests to appropriate offices, and provide accurate guidance for resources.

POLICY ENFORCEMENT: The HOA must be knowledgeable all Student Village and SUNY Broome Community College policies. They are also expected to notify Public Safety when they are aware of violations of New York State and/or federal laws.

TEAMWORK: The HOA is responsible for contributing to positive work relationships; participating as a team member in achieving the stated goals of the staff and Housing and Residential Life, cooperating with staff members and supporting team and Student Village projects and initiatives; demonstrating an acceptance for differences in style; and establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with custodial, maintenance and other campus personnel.

ADMINISTRATIVE: The HOA is responsible for operational and administrative duties such as assisting with lock-outs, and tours; completing necessary paperwork and reports – which may include inventory, or other data requests; completing office hours; reporting and following up on maintenance needs; and promptly attending designated meetings.

BUILDING PREPERATION: The HOA may be responsible for light room cleaning; furniture moves; form completion, filing, key counting, etc. This can also include linen distribution, garbage can set up, and shower curtain placement.

– Provide first level IT support to users with technical problems, in addition to showing patrons how to log onto MyCollege, BrightSpace, perform Degree Evaluations, etc.

– Professionally and appropriately represent the Cecil C. Tyrrell Library at campus events – open houses, activities, etc.

Admission Assistants will become extremely knowledgeable, resourceful, and learn how to identify answers/solutions to visitors’ inquiries. These individuals are required to bring groups of people to various locations on campus. Walking for approximately 45 minutes at a time.
