Register to vote or become a poll inspector
We need you! Apply today to become a Poll Inspector!
Why are Poll Inspectors needed?
Poll inspectors ensure that the right to vote is protected. Poll workers ensure a safe, voting environment where citizens can participate in their most precious right, that of voting.
We need young, engaged citizens to continue this tradition of keeping the polls open for our community members.
Poll workers in NY are compensated for their service, $13.20 per hour. Poll workers are respected and profusely thanked by community members, often by way of donated food.
If you want to serve your community, protect our most basic right to vote, and make a little money, please consider serving as a Poll Inspector. Visit your residential state’s Board of Elections website to get started!
Civic Engagement is creating opportunities for deliberative discourse. Our goal is to bring as many voices to the civic table as possible to deliberate the issues of the day. Through deliberation we learn from one another and grow together as a community.
Civic Engagement Events to participate in throughout the year
Deliberations:
An opportunity to join with fellow students to discuss topics such as Racial Justice, Mass Shootings, Policing in Our Communities, Immigration and other timely issues of the day. Deliberations are not debates, they are a new way of talking where participants learn to listen to one another and find ways to reach common ground on the issue being discussed.
Voter Registration Drives:
The Civic Engagement Center offers opportunities to students throughout the year to register to vote. We will be tabling especially around Constitution/Citizenship Day and National Voter Registration Day, both occur in the third week of September each year.
Common Hour Programs:
Check out the Common Hour schedule for programs related to Civic Engagement. Topics include “Why is voting important?”, “Should the Constitution be updated?”, “What is the Midterm Election and why is it important?”, “What is replacement theory?” and many more relevant and salient topics.
Political Debates:
The Civic Engagement Center hosts debates between candidates running for office including State Assembly, State Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the Broome County District Attorney and many more. Consider attending those debates when scheduled, you will be voting for these candidates, come get to know them!
