Electrical Technology

Electrical Technology: A.A.S.

SUNY Broome’s Electrical Technology program is a great place to start your career or update your skills. The program emphasizes both the theory and the application of scientific and engineering methods, and prepares the student for immediate employment or for transfer to an upper-division school upon graduation.

Modern electronics is at the heart of a wide range of equipment, including projection television, satellite receiver systems, speech synthesis, robotics, aircraft navigation systems and more. ET students learn about the Internet, robotics, satellite systems and computer networks. The graduate will be prepared to be the “intermediary” between the designer and the skilled craftsman, and will translate problems into solutions by building equipment using their knowledge. An exciting engineering technology career is waiting for you in this field!

In order for students to complete the curriculum in two years, the proper high school courses are necessary. The minimum prerequisites are Regents Math A and B or Applied Math I, II, III and IV, and Regents Physics or A.S. III and IV. For those wishing to enter the program without these prerequisites, the College offers the necessary preparatory courses.

Recent graduates have been employed in positions involving the following types of activities:
  • Building/troubleshooting commercial and military aircraft electronics.
  • Working with electrical power generation and distribution systems.
  • Writing software for electronic control applications.
  • Creating and developing cellular telephones.
  • Building and analyzing computers.
EET graduates have the potential to transfer directly into a Bachelors of Technology program – or with additional physics, chemistry and calculus courses at SUNY Broome, into a 4-year engineering program.
