The President’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion at SUNY Broome Community College, in partnership with SUNY’s office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, is very excited to offer a wonderful opportunity for male students of color to participate in the first Men of Excellence program designed to support minority male students academically, socially, personally, and professionally.

Men of Excellence (MoE) Summer Academy
Summer Bridge Program at SUNY Broome Community College
Empowering First-Year Male Students of Color to Thrive in College and Beyond
What is the MoE Summer Academy?
The Men of Excellence (MoE) Summer Academy is a one-week, fully residential summer bridge program at SUNY Broome Community College designed to support incoming first-year male students of color as they transition to college life at SUNY Broome. Through early access to academic resources, mentorship, campus life, and leadership training, students will begin building a strong, supportive foundation for success.
2025 Program Dates: August 18–22, 2025
Location: SUNY Broome Community College
Cost: FREE (includes housing, meals, workshops, field trips, and a $250 bookstore voucher)
Application Deadline: Friday, August 1, 2025
Program Mission
To empower male students of color to succeed academically and personally by providing structured academic support, access to critical campus resources, and opportunities for community connection and leadership development.
Who Should Apply?
We welcome applications from students who:
- Self-identify as male students of color
- Are first-year SUNY Broome students (Fall 2025 start)
- Are motivated to build a foundation for success
- Can provide two letters of support from school staff, work supervisor, and/or community leaders
What to Expect
Students will:
- Live on campus in SUNY Broome’s Student Village
- Engage in daily structured activities
- Build a strong support network
- Participate in field trips and community-building events
- Be paired with a Peer Mentor from the MoE Program
Summer Bridge Benefits
By completing the MoE Summer Academy, students will:
- Gain early familiarity with campus life and SUNY Broome resources
- Build meaningful relationships with fellow students and staff
- Receive a Certificate of Excellence and a $250 Barnes & Noble book voucher
- Get matched with a MoE Peer Mentor
- Be invited to stay engaged with the Men of Excellence program throughout the academic year through ongoing events, mentorship, and activities.

- Workshops on time management, learning strategies, and accessing on-campus academic resources

- Final celebration luncheon with families, faculty, and college leadership
