A Call to Serve

SUNY Broome is seeking faculty and staff volunteers on an on-going basis to serve as mentors for members of the Men of Excellence cohort. Research tells us that mentoring and personal relationships helps to foster a sense of belonging which is vitally important to the success of this student demographic. Faculty/staff mentors commit to build relationships with student scholars throughout the academic year that is culturally responsive and academically supportive.

The Men of Excellence program needs your gifts, your talents, and your support of this critical initiative Mentor expectations include:

  • Meet with your mentee(s) scholar at least twice a month
  • Serve as a role model/support throughout the semester (e.g., connect them to resources on campus)
  • Be open to the possibility of facilitating culturally sensitive student success workshops
  • Foster intentional, and meaningful relationships with male students of color
