Frequently Asked Questions

The Buzz Bundle of Books is a course material model that lowers the cost of materials for students and ensures students have access to all of their required course materials on or before the first day of class.

Through this new program, physical books will be conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and digital materials will be delivered directly within BrightSpace.

Costs will be charged to the student’s account. For the 2025-2026 year, the cost is $25 per credit hour. The cost of the Buzz Bundle is added into a student’s tuition, so course materials could potentially be covered by financial aid for qualifying students.

At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return their physical course materials to the bookstore.

  • Register for your classes and the bookstore will start preparing your course materials.
  • All eligible students are automatically opted in to this program.
  • Students are either fully opted in for all courses or fully opted out, they can’t opt in or out on a course-by-course basis.
  • One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or shipped directly to you).
  • An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships.
  • If you wish to opt out of the Buzz Bundle program, use B&N online Buzz Bundle program opt out.

The program provides all required rental textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital textbook versions to eligible students.

The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, chef beanie, chef pants, chef checkered jacket, knife set, chef supplies, or nursing kits.

All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in the Buzz Bundle of Books program.

Students have the option to opt-out of the Buzz Bundle program each semester during the opt-out window. If you wish to opt out of the Buzz Bundle program, use B&N online Buzz Bundle program opt out.

By opting out, students will not receive their required materials in a convenient package and access to any digital content in Brightspace will be removed after the opt-out window closes. Options for purchasing course materials after opting out can be found on the bookstore website.

The deadline to opt out of the Buzz Bundle is February 13, 2026.

Students will be directed by email through Barnes & Noble College. Barnes and Noble College will collect students’ decisions on opt-out, opting back in.

Students who opt-out will also receive an email asking them if they wish to reconsider and opt-in.

Buzz Bundle is available for Fall and Spring semesters (including early and late sessions) and Summer session.

Buzz Bundle is not available for Winter session.

Learning materials may be purchased in the Bookstore or the online bookstore.

Payment

The cost of the Buzz Bundle is $25 per credit. Therefore, the cost of the Buzz Bundle for a student taking a single three-credit course would be $75, while a student taking four three-credit courses would be $300.

The Buzz Bundle cost will be automatically added to your account via the registration process for each semester. If you are eligible for financial aid, you may use those funds toward the Buzz Bundle.

The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of finals.

Students will receive email reminders about the rental deadline to their email address.

Yes, you will receive an email about a month before the due date with instructions on how to buy your rental book at a reduced rate.

Yes, if the student does not opt-out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

Materials

To verify materials, please visit the course materials portal: Verify Course Materials When you verify your order (sometime within the 30 days before classes start), the system will ask if you would like to pick your books up at the bookstore at no additional charge, or if you would like them shipped to you for a flat rate fee. The fee for UPS Ground is $8.99 per order, no matter the amount of items included, and that charge can be paid using any valid online tender (including financial aid funds you may have available in the bookstore).

Students will be responsible for purchasing their required course materials. Students may purchase their materials at the college bookstore located in the Student Center Building. The website linked to the bookstore is: sunybroome.edu/bookstore

Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course.

Students will receive email from the bookstore to remind them to verify their order until either the student confirms their Buzz Bundle or opt out. If the student does not opt-out, their rental materials will be held at the bookstore, digital materials will be accessible within Brightspace, and their student account will be charged.

Yes, you will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If you do not return the textbooks, the charges for the bundle will go back onto your student account.

Students may write and highlight in the books. Barnes and Noble College expects normal wear and tear. There may be a charge assessed for any book that is returned in poor condition (not able to rent in another semester).

Students may get the same exact book back in a continuation if there is advance notice. Contact the Bookstore for information.

Students have two methods to see the pricing and format options for the materials required for their courses using the bookstore website. If you’d like to compare regular book pricing to the total cost of the Buzz Bundle, please follow these steps:

First, visit the SUNY Broome Bookstore website at sunybroome.bncollege.com

Method 1:

Use the course concierge to see their full schedule and all required course materials.  The default lookup for the course concierge is the “opt-out” term.

buzz bundle course concierge

Method 2:

Use the course materials finder to enter each course to compare format and pricing options:

Students will need to select the “opt-out” term to see pricing and format options.  The Spring 2025 term is tied to the Buzz Bundle and purchasing is restricted in that term for any courses included in Buzz Bundle.

In this example, the per credit hour cost of the program ($75) would be compared to the new purchase price of $146.77.  The amount presented in the cost savings estimate would have been $71.77.
