Medical Administrative Skills: Certificate
Program Mission
Program Learning Outcomes
- Perform a variety of administrative duties
- Recognize ethical and legal responsibilities
- Communicate effectively
- Demonstrate professional characteristics
The Medical Administrative Skills (MAS) Certificate Program will provide graduates with the skills and resources for employment in an entry-level administrative position in various medical offices. It will provide students with the opportunity to begin a professional career in as little as two semesters and fill a need for highly qualified personnel with advanced skills in the field of medical administration. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics employment of medical secretaries is projected to grow 22 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations.
The Medical Administrative Skills Certificate program will also afford students the opportunity to transfer credits into other SUNY degree-granting programs. The certificate program consists of 30 to 31 credits of coursework, and is a blend of Biology, Medical Terminology, Medical Office Procedures, Pathophysiology, Medical Law and Ethics, and other courses specific to the certificate program. Some of the courses will be available to the student in an online or blended format, as well as in the traditional classroom-based setting.
