Legal Studies: A.S.
Program Mission
The mission of the A.S. in Legal Studies program is to provide a well-rounded legal education that prepares students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. In addition, this versatile degree provides students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and training to work in law-related careers in paralegal and other legal support services in government, law-offices and firms, and other governmental authorities responsible for regulatory and compliance oversight (i.e. FDA, Environmental, Oil and Gas, Agriculture). The degree provides a well-rounded education through a variety of coursework in areas including Law, Legal Research and Writing, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Philosophy, History, and English that develops student skills in research, critical thinking, and reading and writing.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of concepts and terms in law, criminal justice, and government.
- Identify and analyze concepts and issues in political science, philosophy, and domestic and international policy.
- Demonstrate a general understanding of required liberal arts subject-matter areas and competencies.
- Effectively communicate in diverse organizational settings.
