Electrical Technology: A.A.S.

Program Mission
The mission of the Electrical Technology Program is to prepare students for careers as technicians with an A.A.S. degree and/or transfer into a Bachelors of Engineering Technology program. The program utilizes small classes to provide quality instruction of the fundamental theoretical concepts of electrical technology as well as extensive hands-on practice of these concepts in a modern laboratory setting.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates with an Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Technology shall:
  • Have the fundamental knowledge and training in electrical technology that is required for professional practice and for undertaking baccalaureate studies.
  • Be capable of applying industry standard technology principles across various stages of testing, designing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical/electronic systems.
  • Have the written and oral skills necessary to function effectively in the profession and society.
  • Have an appreciation and understanding of current issues in electrical technology and their impact on social and global issues.
  • Have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities for the complex modern work environment.
  • Have the desire and ability to engage in lifelong learning.
  • Be effective working individually and in teams.

SUNY Broome’s Electrical Technology program is a great place to start your career or update your skills. The program emphasizes both the theory and the application of scientific and engineering methods, and prepares the student for immediate employment or for transfer to an upper-division school upon graduation.

Modern electronics is at the heart of a wide range of equipment, including projection television, satellite receiver systems, speech synthesis, robotics, aircraft navigation systems and more. ET students learn about the Internet, robotics, satellite systems and computer networks. The graduate will be prepared to be the “intermediary” between the designer and the skilled craftsman, and will translate problems into solutions by building equipment using their knowledge. An exciting engineering technology career is waiting for you in this field!

Program Notes

In order for students to complete the curriculum in two years, the proper high school courses are necessary. The minimum prerequisites are Regents Math A and B or Applied Math I, II, III and IV, and Regents Physics or A.S. III and IV. For those wishing to enter the program without these prerequisites, the College offers the necessary preparatory courses.
