Purpose

The purpose of this policy is that SUNY Broome reserves the right to manage posting and the distribution of informational literature on its campus and to ensure that information that is posted and distributed complies with institutional policies and procedures.

This policy is to set forth the requirements for all students, recognized student organizations, employees, college departments and college affiliates that wish to post information on campus general-use bulletin boards or distribute informational literature on tables designated for this purpose in campus buildings. This policy does not apply to bulletin boards that are reserved for specific departments, offices, or organizations whereby posting generally requires permission of that group.

Statement of the Policy

Flyers are only allowed on general-use bulletin boards and must promote a college-sponsored event, a college service, or a service provided by a non-profit organization that is endorsed by a recognized student organization, college department or unit, or college affiliate. Postings for events must clearly indicate the sponsoring group/organization and phone number or email address of a contact person, including who to contact for reasonable accommodations, or a QR code with access to this information. All flyers posted on general-use bulletin boards are required to have an approval stamp issued by Student Activities.

Prohibited posting activities include without limitation: posting of flyers on doors, windows, trees, light poles, vehicles, bus stops, indoor and outdoor walls and in elevators; promotion of events that advertise alcohol or drugs or any event that violates the law and/or the SUNY Broome Student Code of Conduct; chalking of buildings or roadways; hanging material over current/valid postings of other organizations; hanging multiple postings in the same location; and defacing of any materials posted on general-use bulletin boards.

Informational literature may only be left on designated tables and counters in campus buildings. The literature must be endorsed by a recognized student organization, college department or unit, or college affiliate.

Student Activities staff is responsible for removing informational literature that does not comply with this policy. Student Activities staff will also be responsible for removing items that have expired. Repeated violations will result in a loss of posting privileges and possible disciplinary action.
