AA4029 Class Withdrawal Policy

Purpose

This policy outlines the conditions under which a student may voluntarily withdraw or be administratively withdrawn from one or more classes while remaining enrolled in at least one class during the semester.

Statement of the Policy

A student may initiate a voluntary withdrawal from any class after the schedule adjustment period (defined below) and up until the end of week 13 for full term fall and spring classes. Different deadlines apply to shorter terms or special sessions. Specific parts of the term and their corresponding dates are detailed on the College Academic Calendar on the Registrar’s website.

• A class withdrawal will result in a grade of “W”.
  • A “W” does not affect the student’s GPA.
  • A “W” counts as attempted credit hours, which may impact financial aid and Satisfactory Academic Progress.
• Withdrawals during the schedule readjustment period are treated as drops and do not appear on the student’s official transcript.

Administrative Withdrawal

• Students who never attend during the schedule adjustment period dates will be administratively dropped. No grade will be issued.
• Students who are not attending after the schedule adjustment period may be administratively withdrawn and assigned a grade of “WA”.

Definitions

For purposes of this policy, the following definitions apply:

• Administrative Withdrawal – College-initiated removal from a class or classes due to non-attendance or disciplinary action.
• Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) – Measure of whether a student is meeting academic performance standards including making progress toward a degree or certificate.
• Schedule Adjustment Period – The first three weeks of each full semester course in the fall or spring term. Courses dropped during this period will not be recorded on the student’s academic transcript. Specific parts of the term and their corresponding schedule adjustment dates are detailed on the College Academic Calendar on the Registrar’s website.
• Voluntary Withdrawal – Student-initiated request to withdraw from a class or classes after the schedule adjustment period.
