Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish and outline the parameters with regard to length of time in which a student must complete specific health science accredited programs, from the time of initial enrollment within the program.
Statement of the Policy
Several Health Science programs at SUNY Broome have programmatic accreditation. Program-level accreditation is specialized or professional accreditation in which programs must adhere to specific standards set by the accrediting body. Please click

To ensure the retention of information and skills critical to passing licensing board and certification exams, currency of evidence-based best practices within specific professions, patient safety, and the maintenance of meeting accrediting body and New York State Education Department (NYSED) standards, students are required to complete all program requirements within specified time periods in the following health science programs: Clinical Laboratory Technician A.A.S., Dental Hygiene A.A.S., Health Information Technology A.A.S., Histological Technician A.A.S and Certificate, Nursing A.A.S., Nursing Evening/Weekend A.A.S., Physical Therapist Assistant A.A.S., and Radiologic Technology A.A.S.

General Guidelines
Programs to be completed within Five (5) Years:
Students are required to complete the following programs within five years of program matriculation:
- Clinical Laboratory Technician A.A.S.
- Health Information Technology A.A.S.
- Histological Technician A.A.S. and Certificate
Programs to be completed within Four (4) Years:
Students are required to complete the following programs within four years of program matriculation:
- Nursing A.A.S.
- Nursing Evening/Weekend A.A.S.
Programs to be completed within Three (3) Years:
Students are required to complete the following programs within three years of program matriculation:
- Dental Hygiene A.A.S.
- Physical Therapist Assistant A.A.S.
- Radiologic Technology A.A.S.
