About

“It takes a community to uplift a community.”
– Lisa Strahley

We believe one of the best investments we can make in Broome County is to join together to ensure all children experience the joy and power of loving words through talking, singing, reading and playing every single day.

Did you know that 85 percent of brain development happens in the first few years of life? During these early years, the words read, spoken, or sung to children help build neural pathways that lay the foundation for learning. That is why early language experiences are vital. These experiences – such as reading a book together – increase the likelihood that every child will reach his or her full potential in learning and life.

We know that change happens best close to where families live their lives, through trusting relationships and networks in the community. Therefore, we are committed to working with the community to promote literacy awareness and engagement.
