Notetaking Services
The Accessibility Resources Office (ARO) provides notetaking accommodations to ensure students have equal access to essential course information that supports academic success. Notetaking accommodations are determined individually through an interactive process between the student and their Accessibility Specialist. Students who are registered with ARO and have submitted documentation supporting the need for notetaking assistance may be approved for this accommodation.
Available Notetaking Services (with Approved Accommodation)
Genio (Formerly Glean) Audio Notetaking
Genio is a cloud-based audio notetaking tool that records lectures in real-time. It allows students to highlight key points and organize content for later review. This method encourages independent notetaking and allows students to create notes tailored to their personal study habits and learning style.
Messenger Pigeon Audio Notetaking
Messenger Pigeon is a cloud-based tool that records lectures and enables students to take notes after the recording, rather than during class. This approach allows students to focus fully on the lecture in real time, then return later to add notes, bookmark important segments, and organize content. This method supports students with diverse learning styles and enhances comprehension and independence..
LiveScribe Smart Pen
The Smart Pen allows students to take handwritten notes while simultaneously recording audio during lectures. Notes written in the companion notebook are synced with the recorded audio, so students can tap a specific point in their notes to replay what was said at that moment. Smart Pens are available for semester-long loans through ARO.
Peer Notetaking
In this service, lecture notes are shared electronically with eligible students by a peer notetaker. Notetakers are students with strong organizational and notetaking skills, identified either by ARO or by the student receiving the accommodation. This is a confidential process; the identities of both the notetaker and the recipient remain anonymous.
