Accreditation
Accreditation is a process of validation in which colleges and universities are evaluated to ensure certain standards are upheld by the institution. The federal government requires that an institution be accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting organization in order for its students to be eligible to receive financial aid.
SUNY Broome Community College is an Accredited institution and member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or the Commission) www.msche.org. SUNY Broome Community College’s accreditation status is Accreditation Reaffirmed. The Commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on June 24, 2021 was to reaffirm. MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidate status) activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission’s geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States.

Programmatic Accreditation
The College is supervised by the State University of New York and its curricula are registered by the New York State Education Department.
Several programs at SUNY Broome have programmatic accreditation. Program-level accreditation is specialized or professional accreditation in which programs must adhere to specific standards set by the accrediting body. Many fields may require employees to have graduated from an accredited program.

Dental Hygiene: A.A.S.
The SUNY Broome Dental Hygiene Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “Approval Without Reporting Requirements.” The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. Health Information Technology: A.A.S.
The Health Information Technology accreditor of SUNY Broome Community College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for its associate of applied science degree in Health Information Technology has been reaffirmed through 2030.
