Commencement Frequently Asked Questions

Graduation is the completion of all degree requirements as recorded on the official transcript. Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates the completion of a degree.

Tickets are not required for guests or graduates.

It is required to attend rehearsal as you will be receiving important information regarding the ceremony. Rehearsal will take place from 1 p.m. – 2p.m. on the day of Commencement at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. You can enter the Arena on the ground level and take a seat in front of the stage.

You should bring your regalia and your name card that you picked up from rehearsal.

Everyone participating in the ceremony is required to wear regalia which should be purchased through the SUNY Broome Bookstore. During the ceremony, your tassel should be on the left side of your cap.

You will be told during rehearsal where you should line up. Guests will enter on the second floor of the Arena at the Stuart St. entrance.

The graduation processional will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. Graduates will line up in full regalia at 5:30 p.m. outside the ground level entrance of the Arena. You must have your name card that you picked up at rehearsal.

Times vary each year depending on the number of graduates, length of speeches, number of highlighted speakers, and other factors. While it is impossible to tell how long it will last, two hours is a fairly common length.

Yes, the Commencement ceremony will be livestreamed to YouTube and the video will be available at the SUNY Broome Graduation website on the day of Commencement.
