Bias Incident Response
What is a Bias Related Incident?
Bias related-incidents are incidents where a member or a group of the SUNY Broome community has been mistreated due to that individual’s or group’s actual or perceived age, color, creed, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any combination of these or related factors.
Some examples of bias incidents include, but are not limited to:
- Verbal, physical, or online harassment (e.g. text, social media)
- Bigotry
- Intimidation
- Coercion
- Damage to property via written slur, graffiti, or hate symbol
- Bullying
We encourage any reports of Bias to be directed to the Office of Public Safety

Report a Bias Incident
The Bias Incident Response Team manages bias incident reports and can assist students, faculty, and staff with concerns, issues, and questions regarding bias.

Submit a Bias Incident Report
Individuals may submit a report anonymously. In these cases, please provide as much information as possible. Note that SUNY Broome may only be able to respond to concerns after first verifying the information provided by complainants.

Bias Incident Response Procedure
Confidentiality statement
The SUNY Broome Dean of Students Office, Diversity Office, and Human Resources Department will make every effort to maintain confidentiality, except in situations where the law, College policy, or the investigatory process requires the release of information. SUNY Broome will only release information after informing the complainant.
Prohibition against retaliation
Retaliation against an individual who files a complaint or participates in an investigation is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action.
Reporting a sexual assault or sex-based harassment discrimination
Sexual assault and sex-based harassment/discrimination are serious matters and must be reported to the appropriate campus agencies. View the Title IX Page.
