relay

June 18 – 19, 2010

Tom Grisel, Team Captain; Chester Cheeta; Shirley Lutsic; Pat Yenik; Denise Rogers; and family and friends, all worked together selling hotdogs, chicken spiedie subs, and meatball subs to help raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

The event opened with the National Anthem and then the survivor’s lap.  The crowd stood and applauded the survivors as they walked their lap around the track.  One cancer survivor said he felt like a hero as the crowd applauded.  There were many entertaining and enjoyable events through-out the evening and into the next morning.  Fun was had by all that attended.

The luminary ceremony was especially moving.  Hundreds of white luminaries celebrating the lives of cancer survivors and memorializing the lives of those lost to cancer where lit around the track.  Then the bag pipers began to play and walked the track with hundreds of people holding lit candles following behind.
