Lady Hornets’ Tennis Headed to Tucson, Arizona
The BCC women’s tennis team has done it again. The team’s hard work paid off and they have qualified for the NJCAA Division III tournament that will be held in May, 2010.
The season started off strong with a win at Onondaga CC, and the motivation kept up through the season as the Lady Hornets swept the rest of the opponents they faced including Herkimer CC, Orange County CC and SUNY Delhi. Two team members, Jessica Miller and Colleen Hanzes, had outstanding seasons, coming out undefeated along with the second and third doubles teams.
The team always had a positive attitude when it was time to practice. Coach Collin Crawford had the team do rigorous drills and play against each other every day. “Practices were fun, but hard.” Leighann Hiser said. Even during the windy, miserable days, the girls came out to practice with no complaints: they were there ready to work. The team’s closeness and their ability to work well together had a major impact on their winning season. The team also managed to improve their skills as the season went on, helping them to clench the Region III title.
BCC women’s tennis has advanced to the regional competition many times. Last year the Hornets placed second in the NJCAA Division III tournament. We wish the Hornets the best of luck in Tucson, Arizona this May as they compete for the NJCAA Division III title!
