Men’s Lacrosse 2010
04/10/10 Matt Cochardo scored four goals to lead Broome over Niagara County CC, 10-4, in Sanborn, NY on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets got off to a 4-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. Cameron Gunn, Rob Gleason, Tom Markham and Greg Gebler each scored a goal and Pat Spencer found the back of the net twice. Broome improved to 7-3 while the Trailblazers fell to 1-4.
04/08/10 Matt Cochardo had four goals to lift Broome over host Alfred State College 15-12. The Hornets were all locked up at nine before outscoring Alfred 6-3 in the fourth period. Cameron Gunn turned in a solid performance with two goals and six assists, Patrick Spencer and Tom Markham added two goals, JT Felter and Rob Gleason had a goal apiece and Gregg Gebler added three goals to round out the scoring. Broome improved to 6-3 on the year and will travel to Niagara County CC this Saturday.
04/06/10 Monroe CC’s Dan Hinderland scored four goals to lead the Tribunes (8-1) over Broome (5-3) in a Region III game at Alumni Field Tuesday afternoon. Broome trailed 3-2 after the first period but were outscored 13-2 over the final three resulting in the 16-4 loss. Tom Markham, Rob Gleason and Cameron Gunn each scored a goal for the Hornets.
04/01/10 Broome rebounded from Tuesday’s loss with a 13-10 victory over visiting Hudson Valley CC Thursday afternoon. Matt Cochardo sealed the win for the Hornets (5-2; 5-1) with two goals after the Vikings came within one to make it 11-10. Cochardo’s first goal came with eight minutes left to give Broome a little breathing room and the last came with 17 seconds left to seal the win. Tom Markham (4), Rob Gleason (3), Cameron Gunn (2), Kevin Madden (1) and Luke Griffen (1) rounded out the scoring for Broome. Kevin Conzola had 17 stops in goal for the Hornets. Next up are the Tribunes from Monroe CC Tuesday at Alumni Field.
03/30/10 Onondaga CC proved to be to much for Broome Tuesday, handing the Hornets their second loss of the season 19-2. Greg Gebler scored both goals for host Broome off assists from JT Felter and Rob Gleason. Today’s matchup left both teams with a 4-2 record. The Hornets will host Hudson Valley this Thursday at 4 p.m.
03/27/10 Cameron Gunn scored six goals to lead Broome over Jefferson CC, 18-12, Saturday afternoon in Watertown. Gunn netted five of those goals in the second half while JT Felter had five assists and scored three goals - all in the first half. Tom Markham (3), Kevin Madden (1), John Hunt (1) and Greg Gebler (2) added to the Hornets scoring. Broome improved to 4-1 and Jefferson fell to 2-1.
03/25/10 Four players scored three goals to lift Broome over visiting Cayuga CC, 12-3, on Thursday night. Cameron Gunn, Tom Markham, Greg Gebler and Matt Cochardo scored three goals apiece and Gunn(4), Markham(2), Rob Gleason(1), Kevin Madden(1), John Hunt(1) and Tom Hunt(1) all had assists. The Hornets (3-1) registered a 42-22 shot advantage over the Spartans (2-4) and goalie, Kevin Conzola, had 10 saves. Broome will travel to Watertown this Saturday to play Jefferson CC.
03/23/10 Broome rallied in the third quarter to take a 10-7 lead against SUNY Delhi and the Hornets held on in the fourth to defeat the Broncos 11-10 Tuesday night at Alimni Stadium. Jordan Murray scored, what proved to be the winning goal, 26 seconds into the fourth to give Broome a four-goal lead. Delhi (2-2, 1-2 in Region III) kept the ball on their end of the field and scored three times in the final period but it wasn’t enough to deny Broome (2-1, 2-0 in Region III) it’s home opener. Leading the way for the Hornets was Cameron Gunn with 3 goals and 2 assists, Pat Spencer, Greg Gebler and Tom Markham added 2 goals each, JT Felter chipped in 1 goal and 3 assists and Murray had 1 goal. Kevin Conzola stopped 14 shots for Broome.
03/20/10 Broome bounced back from it’s season opening loss with a 9-7 victory against Mercyhurst North East in Erie, PA Saturday afternoon. After three quarters of play both teams were locked up at six goals apiece before the Hornets took the lead for good on James Felter’s goal with 9 minutes left in the game. Kevin Conzola had 12 saves for Broome. Greg Gebler(1), James Felter(1), Kevin Madden(1), Cameron Gunn(1), Matthew Bochardo(1), Tom Markham(2) and John Hunt(2) all had goals. Broome improved to 1-1 while Mercyhurst NE dropped to 1-3.
03/14/10 Broome opened the 2010 men’s lacrosse season Sunday afternoon in Williamsport, PA against the Lycoming College JV team. The Hornets found the back of the net four times in the first quarter, as did the Warriors, but could only manage one goal in each of the three remaining quarters and eventually fell to Lycoming by a score of 11-7. Tom Markham, Cameron Gunn, James Felter and Patrick Spencer all scored for Broome(0-1).
The spring of 2010 will mark the thirteenth year of men’s varsity lacrosse at BCC. The Hornets participate in the ultra-competitive Region III lacrosse conference, which featured five of the top ten teams in the country last year. The Hornets finished the 2009 season with a 5-8 record.
The 2010 Hornet’s lacrosse team will rely heavily on the incoming freshman class. BCC returns only five players from last year’s team. BCC hopes to return to the Region III playoff after missing it in 2009.
Coach Corey Behlen has taken over as head coach after assisting former head coach Ted Hust for five years. Coach Behlen hopes to continue the winning tradition of the past six years.
