Welcome to Broome Athletics!

BCCPA3Broome’s Athletics Department serves to provide an environment through which the athlete can achieve maximum development-physically and mentally-through a well rounded schedule of intercollegiate competition in athletics.  Broome Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and a charter member of the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Broome’s outstanding intercollegiate athletic tradition includes 15 varsity teams that compete throughout Region III in New York State as well as against teams from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The Athletics Program is enhanced by its facilities—two large, fully equipped gymnasiums, a weight room, a health fitness center, a dance/combative room, athletic trainer’s room, a baseball field, soccer/lacrosse complex, state-of-the-art ice center, and six tennis courts.  A softball complex of four fields is also available.

Women’s Tennis Player in National Magazine

Broome Community College tennis player, Colleen Hanzes, appeared in the September/October 2010 issue of Tennis. The national magazine wrote a short article titled “Mother Superior” about the 50-year-old member of the women’s tennis team. Hanzes lost just one singles match in her college career at Broome and will graduate this December.

Men’s Soccer Season Opener

8/29/10 The Broome men’s soccer team defeated visiting SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Hornets went up 1-0 in the 14th minute on Tom Keegan’s first goal of the afternoon. SUNY ESF, located in Syracuse, scored in the 42nd minute to even up the match at the half. Keegan then put Broome on top for good with a penalty kick in the 54th minute and Gary Hoeft gave the hosts some breathing room with a goal in the 74th minute. Broome travels to Onondaga CC this Thursday for a 6 p.m. match.

Women’s Soccer Season Opener

8/28/10 The Broome women’s soccer team traveled to Rochester, NY this weekend to take on the defending NJCAA  Division III national champion Richland Community College on Saturday. The Hornets  struggled to get any offense going and fell 2-0 to the team from Texas.

8/29/10 Broome continued with their challenging weekend on Sunday when they faced Division I power, Monroe Community College. The women struggled once again on the offensive end,  losing 6-0 to the 10th ranked team in Division I. Leslie Barnes stopped 21 shots against Monroe and 7 against Richland. The Hornets open up their Region III schedule with a home contest Thursday at Alumni Field against SUNY Delhi.

Women’s Lacrosse Meeting

There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in playing Women’s Varsity Lacrosse on Tuesday, August 31, at 4:15 p.m. in the West Gym, Student Center West. If you are interested but cannot attend the meeting contact Coach Yetsko at (607) 427-3771 or eyestko@stny.rr.com

Fall Physicals

Athletes participating in a fall sport must have a physical on file with Student Health Services. Physicals are given on campus Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons in the Science Building room 102 by appointment only (778-5181). You may also pick up a Physical Examination for Sports Eligibility form in the Athletic Department if you choose to have your own health care provider administer your physical.
