The local law enforcement exams have been announced.  The examination date is Saturday, May 3, 2025 with the last date to file being Friday, March 7, 2025.  Please see the information below:

The examination application can be found here.  This application must be turned in by Friday, March 7, 2025 in order to take the exam(s).

The examinations are $30.00 each and are NON-REFUNDABLE. (Payment accepted: Check, Money Order or Credit/Debit Card (if applying for both exams, you can do one check/money order for $60.00). Check/Money Orders can be made out to BCOMB (Broome County Office of Management & Budget) If paying by credit/debit there is a processing fee.

Please note: Be sure to put your full date of birth on applications (00/00/00) (Candidates must be at least 19 years of age to take the examination and not older than 35)

Driver’s License: Candidates must possess a valid New York State Operator’s drivers license at time of appointment.

Each Summer, the Ocean City, MD Police Department hires approximately 100 seasonal employees to assist with the busy Summer Resort.

This position is paid and can count as internship credits through your university if approved.  We will even proctor final exams for the students with professor approval.

Public Safety Officers are utilized as civilian support staff within the Patrol and Support Services Divisions.

Public Safety Officers assigned to Arrest and Detention are responsible for processing and custody of detainees, safety and security of the Public Safety facility, interaction with the general public and the courts.

Public Safety Officers assigned to Patrol Operations handle traffic control, parking enforcement, assist with transportation of arrestees, public safety needs at special events, and the enforcement of civil violations.

TESTING PROCESS:

In-Person – All testing will be completed on Saturday at the Ocean City Police Department.  All applicants will complete a written examination.  Police Officer applicant will then have to complete the physical abilities portion and interview.  Public Safety Officer applicants will only have to complete an interview.

All police officer applicants must submit a signed physician’s waiver prior to completing the physical abilities test. 

On-Line – If you’re unable to attend an in-person testing, you may complete the written examination on-line and have a virtual interview.   In an effort to streamline our testing process and alleviate the financial burden of traveling for applicant testing, our written testing and interview will be conducted online. The written test is a minimal cost compared to traveling to take an in-person test, incurring lodging, meals, and other travel expenses. This will allow the applicant to take the online test at their location and time of choice. Upon successful completion of the written test and virtual interview, applicants will then be provided a background investigation packet to submit.

HIRING PROCESS:

Candidates must submit an application through Police App with preliminary background form attached, successfully complete a written examination, structured interview, physical abilities test (police officer applicants only), background investigation, and medical examination.

In order to complete the on-line written test and virtual interview, applicants will need access to a computer with camera, and show a State issued driver’s license or identification card.

Who We Are

CJESSA is a student-run association that is involved in community service, both on and off campus.

Our Mission

CJESSA’s mission is to make a positive impact on our community, by volunteering in various community service events and donating to local charities.

What We Do

We participate in community service throughout the year. There are many volunteer opportunities, such as traffic marshaling for the local police departments at various 5K runs and parades, food collection for local food banks, and toy collections for Toys for Tots.

What We Gain as Members of CJESSA

We help the community and our service provides us an opportunity to observe and assist various professionals in the CJES field in their everyday work environment.

Field Trips

CJESSA takes field trips to places related to our course of study – the field of criminal justice & emergency services. Our group has visited the National Law Enforcement Memorial, Five Points Correctional Facility, NYS Department of Homeland Security Training Facility, Eastern State Penitentiary, and more.

The New York Army National Guard is a part-time military service branch that is designed to serve the state and the nation. We respond to emergencies, natural disasters, and other community events. We are more than an organization; we are a family that is bound by the honor of serving our community and country. We take great pride in serving with integrity and professionalism.

No experience is required as we will provide paid training for the position you select. The position requires a commitment to join the New York Army National Guard.

We offer multiple job opportunities within different career fields to include: Human Resources, Medical, Combat Arms, Aviation, Mechanics, Supply & Logistics, Construction, Warehouse, Law Enforcement etc.. You will choose your career field before signing a contract.

After completing all your required training, your commitment will consist of working 1 weekend a month along with a couple weeks in the summer for annual training for a total of roughly 39 days a year. You will have the opportunity to volunteer for stateside and overseas missions.

Requirements for enlisting:

– US Citizen or Permanent Resident

– Ages 17 to 35 (age waiver may apply)

– Meet medical, physical and moral requirements
– Be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
